Hey folks, thanks for turning me on to this! I always get on a serious Jerry binge this time of year (reminds me; I need more Jerry in my collection!). The TRI show from Friday left me feeling that the MUSIC was in good hands for the future and hearing this Melvin/JGB reminds me it's always been in good hands! The bad news is I ain't getting any further away from the computer than the length of my headphone cord till they take a break.Thank You Cody, we are forever Grateful!-

The Mars Hotel show got progressively better as it went today but for me it had serious, inexcusable and embarrasing timing fuck ups by "Stewball" the Bobby dude on Big River and Cumberland.
Robin Sylvester played bass and was frikkin' killin' it. Sam Johnson took a lot of great B3 and BLues Harp breaks and things were laid down with power and skill.
When Stu Allen played Here Comes Sunshine: the clouds parted more and more and on the last chorus it was a beautiful blue sky afternoon.
The Scene was packed and jamming with heads.
Midway through the set (and somewhat sucking the life out of the energy) Stu returned with Pat Nevins on acoustic guitar and Sandy Rothman on Dobro to do a Jerry style Goodnight Irene.
Cool shit - but it makes me wonder why they couldn't find a decent upright bass player to give it some impact.
Sandy switched to Mandolin for I'm Troubled and Deep Elem and then the band returned with renewed vigor to complete the set and were on fire throughout.
The Attics was surprisingly well sung. The Lovelight was very well delivered, complete with a Pigpen wrap delivered by the drummer: "Quit playin' pocket pool." At the very last note he spoke added the great quip, "And leave it on!"
The Deal had that HUGE, overdriven killer Garcia shred factor complete with Stu Allen heavily Fanning chords....
The Melvin Seals and the JGB with Dave Hebert was strong throughout and included cool blues, reggae, motown, jazz, Dylan, a huge blowout Don't Let Go, some Melvin delivered Gospel and a blowout ending. Hebert started tamely but during the Reconstruction instrumental and then all the way to the last note he massively increased the gain in his tone and wailed throughout. Dave Ellis took a few sax solos but he wasn't loud enough in the mix to have impact.
