I think they actually did 1 or 2 shorter space segments on the spring tour....-

Yeah I went to 12/30/10 and they did a little spacey jam coming out of Playin' in the Band.
We just don't hear the wild experimental stuff, and I think they could have some great fun with that.
Also, I hear JK mess with alot of different tones when he tunes up, etc, but generally he seems to stick with some standard sounds when he's actually playing.-

I definately would love to see some free form spacey drums in an interlude but don't see Furthur being able to pull off anything near the far out shit we got in the past. MH and BK have such an incredible set up and pallet of sounds that no one compares. Last summer at the Stroudsburg show a guy had told me he spoke to Jay Lane in Jamaica on the beach after Ratdog played and apparently Phil doesn't want drums/space anymore?? Who knows could just be idle talk but considering how many shows Furthur have played and what we are hearing...I don't see it happening as muc as I'dl like it to.-

Get one of the ultra tech savvy fans from the TRI project to build out a palate that Phil likes too
The tech is so insane nowadays.. you can elevate the music itself to a whole new level if done properly and respectfully.
Folks like to bitch about the rise of electronic music, etc...
I say put those fuckers to work with the band to build out experimental sections to augment the TRUE art!!!!
Keep the music central, but put that shit to WORK!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Furthur but one little shortcoming......
the segue ways from song to song when they do not stop playing between the songs tend to be a little more abrupt then the GD...GD used to very slowly morph from one song to another so the jam between two songs contained elements of both songs..regarding SPACE, remember when SPACE used to very slowly and teasingly turn into a song?..or e.g. a good Playing in the Band into Uncle John's band back into Playing....there was a snake-like morphing taking place...now the changes are more sudden..
does anybody agree or is it just me?
that being said we must repeat that Furthur is definitely taking it further and this last tour (saw four shows) was in all respects better than 4 out of 5 GD shows....and prolly saw about 200 of 'emLast Edit: 1 year, 12 months ago by robertjfeldman.come and join the party every day!-

I would not like 30 minutes worth of D/S. But no more than 10 minutes between the two would be adequate. -
