For the past 12 years Terrapin Flyer has been bringing together prominent members from the music community and performing the music of the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia with precision and authenticity. In January 2013 they will again pair two legendary performers from the extended Grateful Dead family, Jerry Garcia Band's Melvin Seals and Mark Karan lead guitarist of Bob Weir's Ratdog and The Other Ones. Melvin Seals played Hammond B3 organ in the Jerry Garcia Band for 15 years and has since Jerry’s passing continued that legacy with his band JGB. He is considered one of the finest Hammond B3 players in the world and is solidly recognized and revered by Grateful Dead fans throughout the nation. Mark Karan was chosen as the guitarist who would step into the shoes of Jerry Garcia when the members of the Grateful Dead decided to join together again as The Other Ones in 1998. Additionally, he preformed as the lead guitarist for Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir for 13 years. He was chosen because of his unique ability to bring a refreshing sound to the Grateful Dead material that does not sound derivative of Garcia. He also continues to perform with Phil Lesh at his new Marin County California club Terrapin Crossroads.
