my way of viewing the sweet jane line from truckin

What in the world ever became of sweet Jane?
She lost her sparkle, you know she isn't the same
Living on reds, vitamin C and cocaine
all a friend can say is "ain't it a shame"

Could this be about Janis? It just hit me a few weeks ago but it would make sense if Robert Hunter wrote this about her.
Hang your heart on laughing willow,
stray down to the water
deep sea of LOVE <3<3<3

I believe they discuss this in one of the several GD books I've read, and I don't remember it being about Janis. Birdsong is a tribute to her by Hunter, though.

You aren't interesting or clever when you write or speak in the lyrics of others. Rather, what are YOUR words?

It's dead and over when close enough is good enough.
