I think they are great. The band needs them. They add to the church-like feel of these shows. They change the crowd-singing-along aspect into something more symbiotic. If Sunshine comes across as loud, that seems like a mixing problem to me....?

The backup singers help fill out the vocals/sound.

LOVE THEM! I think they are one of the things that makes furthur sound so much better than some of the previous post-95 bands. Throughout the whole spring 09 Dead tour I felt the vocals needed work all the way around. I agree that Phil and Bobby's voices both sound better now than ever, and obviously John can blow, but to add Jeff and Sunshine just really took it to another level!!!!

I didn't think she was too loud at the two shows I caught (Florida), but you are absolutely right. She has no idea how loud she is in the house mix. That's the responsibility of the guys at the mixing board. Having said that, I agree with everyone that the backup singers are the bomb!

I think that they are great.
I wonder if either of them will ever get an opportunity to sing lead on a song with this band.
Could Jeff sing any of the Brent songs or the covers that Brent used to sing?
I wouldn't mind if he took a shot at Tons Of Steel or Hey Pockey Way. I miss those tunes from the live set.
