The Allman Brothers Band returned to the stage on Friday night for a performance at Upper Darby, PA’s Tower Theatre. The show kicked off a brief run of Northeast dates. With the exception of a benefit show in July, these are the band’s first and only 2011 appearances since the Allman Brothers’ annual stops at the Beacon Theater and Wanee earlier this year. The band opened Friday’s show with set standards that included “Trouble No More,” “Midnight Rider,” “That’s What Love Will Make You Do,” “Worried Down With The Blues,” “Leave My Blues At Home” and “Jessica.” As promised, the group’s second set was a recreation of the classic live album At Fillmore East in honor of WMMR DJ Pierre Robert’s 30th anniversary on the air. The band opened the set with “Statesboro Blues” and ran through the album’s tracks in order: “Done Somebody Wrong,” “Stormy Monday,” “You Don’t Love Me,” “Hot ‘Lanta,” “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” and “Whipping Post.” Unlike the version of At Fillmore East the Allman Brothers’ played at the Beacon earlier this year, Friday’s recreation did not include any of the deluxe edition’s bonus tracks but the group did return for an encore consisting of “Little Martha” that ran into the end portion of “Whipping Post.”
The Allman Brothers Band returned to the Tower Theatre on Saturday and guitarist Warren Haynes teased “Third Stone From the Sun” in honor of Jimi Hendrix’s birthday. The Allman Brothers Band will kick off a four-night run at Boston’s Orpheum this Tuesday. The group will perform At Fillmore East in its entirety on Tuesday as well as Eat a Peach on Wednesday.
