I generally agree that sound has been somewhat lacking at times at some venues.

Not exactly sure why, maybe it had something to do with the steep pitch of the bowl, but the sound at the soundboard @ furthur fest last year was superb IMO! Best I've heard in 16 shows ... although the tradeoff was that it was a little thin at "ground level".

This is all very interesting. My father saw the Dead in 81 82 and 86 87, and always tells me how the sound was absolutely pristine. Clear, big, not overpowering but still very loud. [Analogue!!] I saw Phil and Friends at the Greek and at Frost in 2002. The sound was phenomenal! It was clear everywhere I went and all instruments and vocals were very present and clear. I'm guessing it is clearly not the same engineer and sound company...
I'm sorry to hear about the bad sound some of you are talking about... For the same reasons mentioned here - Phil's got the most amazing bass sound out there. Bobby has an amazing and unique sound. And all the other musicians too are so great. So it's a bit of a drag to hear that they are not clearly projected out in the various venues.

I think Phil is probably taking what you guys are writing here under consideration....

Anyway, we all do listen with the brain and mind more than with our ears. I can listen to a bad tape and feel like I'm at the show.... So keep Rockin and Rollin' regardless! Cheers

with the large outdoor sheds they're playing this summer I'm sure they are going to invest in better sound.
the shows at shoreline should be a good test

not sure if this is the right abbreviation for a Major League Asshole but the shit for brains that started this thread who apparently can't get his point accross without throwin' stones is AMLFA and may his or her Karma flourish to the down side.

you really think that coming on to this board and trashing the sound guy is gonna sway something your way so you alone can have what you think is a premium listening experience ?
it's shit for's like you that "clog the channels" and need to stay away from the scene because "we don't love you."
