We drive until the city lights
Dissolve into a country sky
Just me and you

Lay underneath the harvest moon
Do all the things that lovers do
Just me and you

Just as free
Free as we'll ever be
Just as free
Free as we'll ever be
Ever be

No we don't have a lot of money
No we don't have a lot of money
No we don't have a lot of money
All we need is love

We're free as we'll ever be
Just as free
Free as we'll ever be
Ever be

When the lights go down in the City
And the sun shines on the bay
I want to be there in my City, ooh, ooh
So you think you're lonely
Well my friend I'm lonely too
I want to get back to my City by the bay

City girls, they're not the same
Different breed, even a different name
Whoa such strut and sass
Gold-plated class
It's their court, it's their ball and their game

Whoa they know so much better than me
What you're gonna be, what you're gonna do
When they turn it out
They leave no doubt, no doubt
They were old when the world was young

Country girls, they're so sweet
But I like to skate on thinner ice
I like city girls, oh city girls
Twice the fun, six times the price

City girls
I love, I love, I love city girls

Each day I greet the morning
with the sounds of the radio,
Lester Flatt was singing on that
Martha White show.
"Big K" on the banjo, Marty on the mandolin.
I'm an all American bluegrass girl
and proud of where I've been.

-CHORUS-
Bill might be from Kentucky, and
Jimmy from Tennessee.
Though I might be from Missouri,
I'm as bluegrass as can be.
A life of bluegrass music
with friends and family.
I'm an all American bluegrass girl,
and proud as I can be.

Even though you're wearin those
up-town high heels
i can tell from your giant step
you been walkin through the cotton fields
you're so down home girl
...was staring at the little blotch of sunshine with a special intensity, considering lying down in it.

When I was a little bitty baby my mama would rock me in my cradle

In them old cottonfields back home

When I was a little bitty baby...

Now when them cotton bolls get rotten you can't pick very much cotton

In them old cottonfields back home

It was down in Louisiana just about a mile from Texarkana

In them old cottonfields back home

[ guitar ]

When I was a little bitty baby...

When I was a little bitty baby...

In them old cottonfields back home in them old cottonfields back home

If it hadnt been for cotton eye joe
I'd been married long time ago
Where did you come from? Where did you go?
Where did you come from cotton eye joe?

He came to town like a midwinter storm
He rode through the fields so
Handsome and strong
His eyes was his tools and his smile was his gun
But all he had come for was having some fun

He brought disaster wherever he went
The hearts of girls was to hell broken sent
They all ran away so nobody would know
And left only men cause of cotton eye joe
...was staring at the little blotch of sunshine with a special intensity, considering lying down in it.

[Chorus] I never picked cotton But my mother did And my brother did And my sister did And my daddy died young Workin' in the coal mine

When I was just a baby Too little for a cotton sack I played in the dirt While the others worked 'Til they couldn't straighten up their backs I made myself a promise When I was big enough to run That I'd never stay a single day In that Oklahoma sun

[Chorus] Folks said I grew up early And that the farm couldn't hold me then so I stole ten bucks and a pickup truck And I never went back again Then it was fast cars and whiskey Long haired girls and fun I had everything that money could bring And I took it all with a gun

[Chorus] It was Saturday night in Memphis When a redneck grabbed my shirt When he said go back to your cotton sack I left him dying in the dirt They'll take me in the morning To the gallos just outside And in the time I got There ain't a hell of alot That I can look back on with pride

Oh, the ragman draws circles
Up and down the block
Id ask him what the matter was
But I know that he dont talk
And the ladies treat me kindly
And furnish me with tape
But deep inside my heart
I know I cant escape
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

They've got catfish on the table
They've got gospel in the air
And Reverend Green be glad to see you
When you haven't got a prayer
But boy you've got a prayer in Memphis
I can't come down, it's plain to see.
I can't come down, I've been set free.
Who you are, and what you do,
don't make no difference to me.
