SF History, anyone?

I'd like to share this website I've been enjoying lately: foundsf.org/index.php?title=ROCK_%27n_ROLL_LANDMARKS. It has a lot of interesting photos. Enjoy! This website covers the area near the Bill Graham Civic Aud (on the site of the old Mechanics Pavillion) in depth, and also has some great photos:upfromthedeep.com/mid-market/

My favorite quote about San Francisco's streets refers to them as "a Frankenstein's monster of a street plan, patched together from seemingly disparate parts by a madman". This is particularly true about Market St. where none of the cross streets line up directly due to a surveying error in 1849. In addition the city has now added Byzantine rules about no left turns onto Market from some cross streets, and mandatory right turns (from the curb lane) for cars heading east on Market, at 10th and 6th. I recommend calling the hotel you are staying at and asking for the current best directions on how to get to them easily. Good luck everyone!
