security at shows

#74677 2 years, 5 months ago
it was briefly mentioned in another thread i forget where but it was something i had on the back of my mind for a while

how do you approach/handle security at shows? i know there are different levels, the lowest being free for all, aisle ushers, up to guards on floor walking through the crowd

i often see people react negatively, even without any type of confrontation, like there is some sort of barrier between us and them...there really isn't, they are just there to watch us and make sure we don't get out of control, creation of jobs really...is there the occasional jackass? yes, but i really find it rare. i am always polite, thankful, etc. i try to pose as little threat as possible (although sometimes i may look like some sort of crazed lunatic) i do whatever they say because if you do, you never get in trouble, it is always the ones who rebel that are getting escorted away..

i was in a debate with some heads who said there should be no security at any shows..i disagreed...i think there needs to be some sort of "order" at least something the masses will acknowledge..i don't think we need to get patted down on the way in but i think there should be somebody on hand to assess any type of situation that may arise...with all the drugs and alcohol some people get totally out of their mind and sometimes irate and aggressive
who else is gonna bring you, a broken arrow?

the only times i have seen security be a problem, is when they are heavy handed. And not at furthur shows, just old GD shows or other bands.

Let us in, no problem, no pat down and there are no issues.

Seriously, though, is security really an issue? At the furthur shows I have seen, security wasn't any kind of concern as far as partying went. Maybe I have just been fortunate....

My friend got busted inside the show at Broomfield last February for eating fungus. He was escorted out and booked. I think it was just really bad luck though. Security should be cooler than that.

the first night at shoreline the lady went thru all my pockets on my jacket and pants then proceeded to lift up my shirt and then pul out my pants like by the waist band it was def the most serious shakedown i ever experienced at a furthur show. at eugene the entry was almost nonexistent if you didnt have a bag you just walked right thru really

treat them with respect and the result will likely be respect given back.

Like it, or not, there's always going to be some form of law/security at public shows, it is what it is. I just try to pretend they're not there.

Last year at Broomfield (shakedown) just before one of the shows, cant remember which night, I saw the cops chase this middle aged chick down and then tackle her, like some MMA shit. Somehow or another, she gets up, strips off all her clothes, and starts screaming and carrying on, I dont know what she was on, but she definitely lost her shit. The 2 or 3 cops just stood there for a few seconds, guess they were stunned, and then took her to to wagon. I hope she's alright now.
