I agree, comfortable sneakers (or shoes) are the best. I prefer lighter sneakers, just in case I don't take them off, sometimes you do step on peoples feet. So wooden boots with heals probably are not great if you will be grooving.
I only wear the new balances too, my foot is wide and they have the best selection I've ever found. Sometimes I will add florescent shoelaces for fun.
Converse had some grateful dead sneakers in their chuck taylor colletion. I almost bought a pair, but I can't find them in stores and buying sneakers by mail order is not my thing (even with zappos where I think you can return them for free). Here are some pics of the chuck taylor shoes. They are all over the web and even ebay. I do not know if they are comfortable, again which I think is the most important.
