Historical question about Grateful Dead 1974

#49867 2 years, 11 months ago
Lately I've been listening to some of the 7 show Europe run the GD did in September of 1974 and the quality is amazing. Here is my question: I know they hauled the famous "Wall of Sound" PA system around the U.S. during that year, but did they ship it over to Europe as well?

This is a good question, and I can't find any info to verify either way. But I'm guessing, no. It was very difficult to move and set-up.
I can't come down, it's plain to see.
I can't come down, I've been set free.

What's interesting (maybe only to me), is that I swear there wasn't a Deal on the tape I had of that show. It was one of the very first 2 Dead tapes I was given (along w/Cornell '77). Neither dead.net or Deadbase 8 lists it, but Deadbase 10 does. It sure sounded good!

Out of the seven shows they played in Europe in Sept 1974, according to Setlist.com, they played Deal at three shows: 9/9/74 London, 9/14/74 Munich, and 9/18/74 Dijon.

don't quote me but i'm pretty sure i read somewhere it was left behind due to the high cost it would have been to ship it over, and then transport/set up while out there...
who else is gonna bring you, a broken arrow?
