Well I'm screwed. I think I may have pissed someone off (moderator?)... my karma buttons have been disabled!!!!!! I can't give anyone karma...even the good kind! Oh boy, what could be worse Karma than to be told your Karma doesn't count?! Even Buddhist hate me!
Oh Well. This might be the start of a new, meaner internet Lynx.
As long as my opinion doesn't matter (and I know it doesn't. I live with three women...one wife and two daughters... they taught me long ago my opinion is worthless) I might as well give it. This thread was an experiment meant to prove my point that this whole "Karma" button thing is useless. Apparently it worked.
Being able to give fellow furthur boarders "Karma" was a good idea, I think I know why it was done... to be a self-policing mechanism. A way to encourage good/positive treatment of others and dissuade bad/cruel treatment. Unfortunately it will never work. It's the internet for crap's sake! No one will take it seriously. Many (most?) have the tendency to pipe-up only when they find something to bitch about. When they like something they rarely take the time to express it... especially online (see trip advisor).
While I think that the Karma experiment has failed, if there MUST be a Karma button it would be better if there was only a positive (aka "thumbs up") Karma button and not a negative/"thumbs down" button also. This way we could reward good behavior and ignore bad. Kinda like how we have a "thank you" button but not a "fuck you" button.
PS I'm all for the addition of a "fuck you" button
