another $200 down the drain...

#37315 3 years, 2 months ago
yea so our main house desktop computer was like 75% corrupted and it was messing up the internet service on my computer as well, and it looked pretty screwed so I had microsoft fix it with one of those things where they take your computer over. I know someone will say I wasted my money and could of got it done cheaper but whatever, it'd be a pain in the ass to lug the computer around anywhere and this thing was pretty screwed up, took them a good few hours anyway to fix it - sucks not knowing or knowing anybody who knowsabout computers. All our computers are warrenteed from anything for 2 years now anyway but now I really wasted that $140 I spend getting rid of viruses a few weeks ago on my 1 computer for that 1 time when this $200 service would of covered everything. damn brothers messing up the family computer....

well now I can relax and relieve some stress with a little gdradio and a few puffs (and maybe a few more

Doesn't matter what you spent, as long as you've got a functional computer(s) back. Enjoy the music and all!

when they fixed the computer they installed 2 new anti virus things. We had some already, part of the problem is my brothers ignoring all the warnings from our security.

I can tell you that demonoid.com is a vurus carrying site
I no more than pressed enter after putting my user name and password in and was instantly infected

my suggestion is to set up users. Until they learn to play by the rules set their user settings to high security- no downloading anything, no opening pics, no nothing. When they promise to be good, take it down one more notch... then antoher... it'll teach them. If they invite more problems yank their security setting high again.

It could be that they are getting them in their email inbox, which deposits it in your temporary. Even though it is never opened, your virus protection will find it, so don't assume there are viruses. If they are in temporary it's not infected...

my computer tech friend told me to avoid norton - used to be good, but no more. he recommends (and i've used successfully) the plain, vanilla avg software you can download for free from downloads.com. that's taken care of the few viruses i've picked up from demonoid (ironically, most often when trying to download the avg pro version ;-}) but if you're not particularly computer savvy, $200 for that kind of peace of mind sounds like a pretty good deal...

thanks for the advice..... we already told them that if the computer gets infected 1 more time then we are going to use the security setting and they will pratically not be able to do anything. We should do it right now but I'm giving them 1 more warning after knowing the $200 came out of MY pocket. If it gets infected in the next 2 years they fix it for free so that is really why they got another warning.

I don't visit that site Highway but how is yours going? ..... I notice your not on to much anymore, I hope you get it all figured out!

I am an IT guy who works at a large University. I deal with viruses everyday. Most viruses get through because folks don't take security updates. When I say security updates I am talking about Windows Updates, Java updates & Adobe Flash updates. Even with great Antivirus installed the virus can still sneak onto your computer if you don't perform the updates. Java & Flash are riddled with security flaws. You can go to the most innocent website (that has been compromised) and instantly get a virus because your Java & Flash are outdated. Common sense and updated security prevent viruses.
