I was really happy to come across this thread!
About two months ago, we adopted a starving, unwanted retired racehorse (we have three now), and after the holidays, we're going to the pound to get another dog ( who will hopefully replace our late yard dog, Lizzie, who kept the raccoons, rattlesnakes and garden-eating deer away from the house).
We've got varying numbers of barn cats, too, and the high point of my day is when I go out to feed all these critters.
