Brent Mydland's death and it's effects

#322807 6 months ago
There was a recent debate which couldn't get too far owing to the 40 character thing on Twitter. It was regarding the extent to which Brent Mydland's death affected Jerry's ability to cope with his ongoing ill-health and therefore the extent to which it may have hastened his own demise. Was anyone on here close enough to JG to know how Jerry took that tragic event?

From what I've read and heard over the years Jerry was Totally Devastated by Brent's death
I'm pretty sure that Weir talks about this very issue in the new film that debuted Wednesday at the Tribeca Festival

I would believe weather or not Brent died Jerry would of still went down that road he went down. Of course Jerry took it hard. Brent took his playing to there level and was great at it. The sound of there music want the same after he died. I was to young to see Brent but I sure do enjoy his keys more than anyone else that has played them.
And I'm going to sit right here until I die

I really look forward to seeing that film. Guess we'll have to wait a while to see it here in the UK though.

Love your quote from "Big River". Just wondering how much more we would have had from Jerry if Brent's sound hadn't faded from behind him. Brent really knew how to sit in there with his synth patches and Bobby-complementing keyboard vamps.

I believe that is safe to say.
You aren't interesting or clever when you write or speak in the lyrics of others. Rather, what are YOUR words?

Agreed. Brent's demise didn't cause Jerry to eat properly or exercise regularly, at least not for long.

He guy didn't like exercise and apparently ate what he liked with little concern for its sugar content.

That will get you quicker than heroin abuse, which physiologically is less damaging than alcohol or smoking.

It does more damage to your overall well being, like making you not care if you exercise or eat right.

I think that when you lose a member of your club it's a big loss. The club includes Jerry, Brent and John Kahn all gone in ten years I'm so glad I never was a member.

Brent's death had a huge impact on me, and I didn't know him.
