The magical month of May (1977) is always my standby, default, comfort zone, whatever. Never fails.

Incidentally, I was cleaning out somebody's apt. years ago and found a cassette simply labelled "Eugene" -- which I've subsequently misplaced -- which sounds like it was recorded on a walkman in someone's pocket way up in the nosebleeds in the late 80s. The crowd is louder than the band, freakin the hell out during space; "oooohhhh my goooooddd!" "this is....!!! this, this is...!!! this, this, this issssss" and some dude screaming"Saint Steeeeeeeeeephen!" truly sounding like he was dying. Best part is some dude hollerin "Here we go!" over and over and over like he's waiting for a roller coaster! (He was!) That is a rowdy recording!
If unable to dance, I'll crawl.

found a short review of this one:

Who could forget the 2nd set!! The audience roars to life when Jerry kicks into Scarlet. I particularly liked that Garcia really drew out the jam/segue into Fire...and the thunderous echo throughout the arena of Garcia, Weir and Mydland singing "FIRE" " Fire on The Mountain!" More hair-raising bliss. Finally--the interplay between Bobby & Jerry when Jerry is trying to launch into Eyes--Bobby won't let him! Loved that venue

Hey Tony.

Peace offering ...

One of my favorite show of latter days took place in Hamilton Canada March 22 1990. The Scarlet/Fire is absolutely sonic ! When Jerry's MIDI kicks in it's like he's riding in a chariot lashing the Deadheads who are pulling him. The transition between Scarlet/Fire is a real thing of beauty. Funny the Fire gets rated in Deadbase as one of the best , but the Scarlet isn't rated the same. Anyhow ...

Check the 'must have been the roses from that Hamilton show.

For a mellow song the crowd sure is rowdy !

Such a tight version. I got chills on the line "no one seems to come around anymore ..."
