The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe

A true classic. I wished someone a little more akin to the scene had written it instead of Tom Wolfe. Don't get me wrong, he's
a great author. Bonfire of the Vanities is an excellent book.

I was just reading the ingredients on a box of instant vanilla pudding. All the 7, 8 and 9 syllable words were a challenge.

hey glenn did you read dharma bums? i read it front to back today while working (easiest gig i've ever had). good book. has that same kerouac essence "on the road" has. i enjoyed it. i was able to relate, i was also able to step back and ponder my own being and current life(style). i sure as hell want to go climb a mountain.

edit: next up, origin of species, by charles darwin

If you liked DB then you may like Big Sur too...kind of a sequel...

That's an odd choice to read for a modern non-scientist, though historical science documents are interesting for posterity. If you are looking for something a little more relevant to the modern understanding of evolutionary biology check out any publications by Lynn Margulis. I knew her when I was a UMASS for the last few years up until her unexpected passing and her work is truly fascinating. I've posted about some of her titles before if you are interested in some recommendations for further reading.

just wanted to read the original. it's actually 2nd edition, but from what i've gathered there were, in phrasing darwin might use, no less than 6 editions during his lifetime alone. i am fascinated by his work and that of his colleagues.

The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan

very surprising (and scary) info. about corn...easy read and good book for those who care or want to care about the merits and shortcomings of what they eat
