Who originally sang Road Runner?

Te song Road Runner from 03/13/11 feat. warren haynes was amazingand I would really like to know whosang it originally sang it. All i could find was Bo Diddley maybe but the lyrics didnt match.

Actually I think the version that Furthur did was written by Eddie and Brian Holland and was an old Motown hit sang by Junior Walker. JGB did it, Bob sang it in the Dead in 86, and in kingfish.

Junior Walker busted Roadrunner out in '65 but my favorite version is the following 1st set closer..it was a pretty good night.

08/20/81 (Thu) Keystone - Berkeley, CA
Set 1: Sugaree, I Second That Emotion, Love In The Afternoon, Tough Mama, Mississippi Moon, Roadrunner,

I like that 08/20/81 keystone show, good times at that place with JGB.

That place was special, you had to love Jerry walking to the stage through the crowd, guitar in hand, followed by the band. Home field advantage. This is my favorite JGB show ever attended, out of many. The next night at Palo Alto was one for the ages as well
