In discussing Furthur with many people, I repeatedly hear comments about the slower temp, etc. I have come to conclude that some people are really attracted to a faster tempo and raw energy. Joe Russo's Almost Dead, for example, seem to get rave reviews from many people. DSO with Mattson also seems to get good reviews. I personally don't care about the tempo or the raw energy as much. I care about the quality and style of the jamming. To me Furthur (and JK) has a style closer to 73 Dead, more of laid back jazzy style. ALmost Dead and DSO are closer to the periods pf the Dead that were more rockin or raw (69ish, 85ish). I would totally agree that Almost Dead and DSO w/Mattson have lots of raw energy. I, personally, think, however, that their jams are boring. I much prefer Furthur on a bad day to either of the other two bands.

Yeah man! I actually like them more with Mattson than with JK ... yikes did I just say that??
If DSO doesn't trip you trigger - I feel sorry that you can't feel it. You are missing critical mass show after show. I love Furthur too but with DSO I never have to worry about GD-Lite. Can't say the same for our fearless leaders
