Grateful Dead on Saturday Night Live

Can't post it like a video, but click the link. It's a real nice version of Alabama getaway>Saint of Circumstance, from 1980.

I can't come down, it's plain to see.

I remember being 13 watching it live, one of my earliest memories of being "aware" of the grateful dead,

good times
gone are the days we stopped to decide, where we should go we just ride

Wow! That might be the best Alabama Getaway I've ever heard.

I was 9 yrs old, when I first stayed up waaaaaaaaaay past my bedtime to catch The Grateful Dead play SNL...77'

(i forced myself to stay up to watch)

my bedtime was around 9:30-10pm at that age, even on the weekends...

but something inside me (insisted) I stay up to watch them....

call it "A Calling" if you want...

been addicted ever since..

The Grateful Dead only performed on Saturday Night Live twice. November 11th, 1978. And April 5th, 1980.
This video is from the 1980 show.

The funniest bit (and I can't find it on youtube) was host Richard Benjamin and his wife Paula Prentiss having dinner with (I think) Jane Curtain and Bill Murray. They discovered they were all Joeyheads.....never missed a Joey Bishop show..."do you remember the show in Buffalo when Joey did the joke about"......you get it.......

Here's the 78 performance!

Better quality, although mis-dated as 1980, it's the 11/78 show.
