A warm rain in January
Crouching in the dry comfort of the van
As the drops drum out the beat on the roof
And the school kids file by in t shirts
Boisterously exclaiming their approval
For an afternoon parole
And the comforting breeze on their necks

With the next front gathering steam
Over northern boundary waters
Promising replenishment
For the newly barren landscape
We revel under the gauzy grey umbrella
And taste the fruity, gentle kiss of a January thaw
While we consider the promise of second chances
That unexpected temperate temperatures afford

And feel grateful.
