I can't say Brent's death at the time affected me that much. I had a lot going on in my life then, and was digging on new sounds
after having attended umpteen shows and thousands of hours listening. In retrospect it was the Brent years that touched me the most. His overall tone and the flavors that he produced were part of a fabric that enticed me. Looking back now the band never fully recovered from his loss. Brent was the best keyboard player the Dead ever had, and his singing was arguably the best the band was ever graced with in terms of being a traditionally good singer. Of course we all know Jerry was better, but you get my drift.
