1967 Classic Albums

#216955 1 year, 8 months ago
1967 was an incredible year in music. Some of my favorite albums are from this year. I can't name one favorite though, there's way too much good music here! One of my favorites is Pink Floyds' Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Syd Barrett is absolutely incredible with his psychedelic imagery in his lyrics. I love his voice and his experimenting on the guitar still gives me goose bumps. I absolutely love this album start to finish, that's true for most of Floyd's records for me you can close your eyes and almost feel like you've been transported to that era.

WAY to many to choose. Hell, some had two albums released that year. Beatles with MMT and SPLHCB. Doors with self title and StrangeDays. Airplane had a couple. Can't leave out Hendrix. yea way to many too choose.

Grateful Dead - s/t
Jefferson Airplane - After Bathing at Baxter's
Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates
The Doors - s/t
The Doors - Strange Days
The 13th Floor Elevators - Easter Everywhere
The Velvet Underground & Nico

I thought there would be more. A couple more are strong considerations, but they aren't as solid as these. I could also name others out of due respect, but as for my personal listening pleasure, and for full albums and not just a song or two, these are it.

I think I'll go with The Doors - s/t or TVU&N as today's favorites.
You aren't interesting or clever when you write or speak in the lyrics of others. Rather, what are YOUR words?

The Dead's first album was one of the first of theirs I owned and has always held a special status with me. Just listened to the TVU&N the other day. What an oddity that was for that year, but it still holds up today. Amazing what you can do with a cello.

Absolutely Free is such a great album, especially if you know what are now the historical references made on it.
Absolutely Free, We're only in it for the money, Floyd's Ummagumma, Live Dead and Anthem of the Sun are my favorite records when ingesting mind expanding goodness.

I picked 67 because this is the 45th anniversary of this stellar year in music history. I routinely listen to most of these albums from this year, but they have been more frequent in my playlist this year because of the anniversary. Another one of my favorites is The Moody Blues, Days of Future Passed.

This album is remarkable. A story of a day in the life. Way ahead of its' time too. Nights in White Satin hit the charts in 1972 I believe. The atmospheric sphere of music, obtained by a blending of a real orchestra with a mellotron, makes this album seem out of time from almost everything else. Not better, just very different. And very enjoyable

When you look at the albums that were released between 1965 and 69 it just blows my mind. And when you consider how short a time it took to produce most of them, in comparison to today with pro tools and all that, my mind is further blown.
