several years ago I tried an apple crisp pie for Thanksgiving and its been a keeper ever since.
pie crust on the bottom, your usual apple middle then a nice apple crisp topping instead of pie crust. We also use fresh apples from a local orchard and mix it up as much as possible. Probably close to 10 different kinds of apples used... they have at least 15 throughout the year..... they say certain apples are best for cooking but I think the best results come from using the biggest variety.... made a nice apple danish to.
