I think most people are staying at the Whitcomb. I've stayed there the last 3 years, and while it is an older hotel,
it is fairly well run. And literally a 3 minute walk to the Bill Graham.Last Edit: 7 months ago by dougieisirie."Some ask, why play Grateful Dead music??

- One way or the other this darkness got to give
Stayed at The Good Hotel at 7th and Mission last year and it was full of heads. Not too crazy loud but there was tons of smoke drifting down the halls 24/7 and the staff was totally laid back about it. It's a half mile from the BG and about a 10 minute walk. It's an obsession but it's pleasin'-

Holiday Inn is probably nicer because it is newer and it has a pool, however....
The Whitcomb has character, just like San Francisco.
Now if I was just visiting the City, I would probably stay somewhere else entirely and avoid the colorful character that is the Tenderloin/SOMA district, but for 3 nights over NYE at BGCA, the Whitcomb is the only choice.Takin' it in stride!-

i agree. My first choice is the Whitcomb, but Holiday Inn and the Good Hotel are both good choices. All about in the same price range."Some ask, why play Grateful Dead music??

That's a great find! and they have loaner bicycles.
And they weren't troubled by the smoking? Seems at odds with how they sell themselves as being so clean and green.
How was the walk back to the hotel after the shows? Did you experience much riff raff on the streets at that late hour.
I know it tends to get sketchier as you move south of Market Street and down in street numbers. Just curious.Takin' it in stride!-

If you were just visiting you would definitely stay somewhere else.
If i was solo I would probably stay in downtown but with my wife I try to make these more into a vacation if possible. That way she gets even more excited to go which in the long run is a good thing for me
