I think Timmy's unorthpdox wind up, where he actually kept his hand behind his head, is the cause of his decline. It's kind of an unnatural movement -- totally possible if the pitcher is young and limber but less effective as the body ages. Remember Dwight Gooden? When he first broke in with the Mets his fastball topped out at something inhuman, like 103. Two years later it was down into the high 90s and he was nowhere near as dominant.
