We are pleased to announce two special occasions on December 1st to benefit the Rex Foundation, one taking place in San Francisco and one in New York City.

In honor of Jon McIntire, long time Grateful Dead Manager and Rex Foundation Board Member, in San Francisco we present A Buck Dancer's Choice at The Fillmore, featuring Bob Weir and the Mickey Hart Band. Special guests will be announced. Check out the event details, including information about Jon McIntire, and get a head start in reserving your seats before the official invitation is sent. The image here is a glimpse of the beautiful event poster designed by Darrin Brenner.

In New York City, we will once again have a special reception at the Beacon Hotel just before the Hot Tuna show at the Beacon Theatre, featuring special guest Jorma Kaukonen. As you'll see in the event description, in addition to the food, beverages and spirited connection time, the reception/concert tickets include great orchestra and loge seating for the show. And, if you already have your concert tickets, you can purchase reception-only tickets to take part in the fun and support Rex.

Bob Weir, Mickey Hart Band and members of ALO performed at the Rex Foundation benefit event A Buck Dancer’s Choice at San Francisco’s Fillmore on Saturday night. The evening celebrated the life of longtime Grateful Dead manager Jon McIntire, who passed away earlier this year. The Grateful Dead wrote the song “Uncle John’s Band”—which contains the line “It’s a Buck Dancer’s Choice, my friend”—for McIntire, who was their manager at the time.

Weir remained busy throughout the evening, participating in all three of the evening’s primary segments. He joined ALO’s Dan Lebowitz (guitar), Steve Adams (bass) and Dave Brogan (drums) as well as Lesley Grant for a three-song segment that included “Me and My Uncle,” a Bill Withers cover and a reggae-version of “Dark Star.” He also offered a solo acoustic set that opened with “Loose Lucy” and included “Black-Throated Wind” and “Playing in the Band.” Later in the night, he played electric guitar with Mickey Hart Band for a run from “China Cat Sunflower” into “I Know You Rider.”

Watch the Video: A Buck Dancer’s Choice

Our December 1, 2012 event “A Buck Dancer’s Choice,” honoring the memory of Jon McIntire, was pretty much a delight from start to finish. Now we’re happy to present this video with highlights from the show, so those who were there can relive the happy evening, and those who missed out can enjoy some of the great moments.
