I discovered the existence of local tarantulas here the other night when this young adult male came in from the garden.

I was in the living room and I saw a dark blur on the kitchen floor. Dark, fast, and hairy. I thought"must be a mouse. Strange, we've never had mice here before.... Then it started wAlking towards me. I said "ah honey, there's a tarantula in here" He said "no there's not" "I said yes there is" he got up and it advanced towards him rapidly with two of it's forelegs raised
Then we caught the guy in a gallon sized glass jar. You see the results. Turns out the males come out at night to search for females in the fall. We had just never seen or heard of this before. Guess they are pretty common in yosemite park. I let him go in some rocks in the nearby woods. Far be it for me to stand in the way of true love.

I had no idea they were found outside of desert areas, fascinating. And you definitely get the prize for story (and calm reaction) of the week!

No spider that I come across is that lucky. I simply do not tolerate them.
Please tell Governor Christie of NJ to open the records

I really love that picture of the rose, Paige. Beautiful. But the spider story was very cool. That's an impressive looking
specimen there. I'm pretty tolerant of spiders. They eat a lot of nuisance bugs. I usually do a catch and realease if
they get too close. Thanks.
I can't come down, it's plain to see.

Check out the Frangipani Caterpillar that is eating the Frangipani tree in my yard. They start out by hatching from eggs laid on the underside of the leaves. They molt five or six times before they reach their full size. The sap of the frangipani tree is poisonous so the frangipani caterpillars has no enemies. They will strip the tree bare of all it's leaves but the tree rows back again.
