From the HS years (1982-1985) in general order:
Asia - First concert ever / opening act was a juggler
Cheap Trick
Judas Priest/Iron Maiden - the greatest metal show ever IMO!
The Who - 1982 Farewell Tour
Billy Idol
Aerosmith
Triumph
Grateful Dead
Pretenders
The Cars
CSN
Ted Nugent
Neil Young and International Harvester
ZZ Top
Eric Clapton
(I'm sure there are a bunch more that are escaping my challenged memory right now)
University of SC stay (Fall 85-Fall 86):
Grateful Dead - Halloween 85
Van Halen - 5150 tour
REM w/ the Minutemen - almost got the minutement to stay in our dorm room!
The Hooters
Lone Justice
Year abroad in Germany (1989-1990):
Aerosmith
Santana
Rolling Stones - Bill Wyman still with them
-Unfortunately I came home in August 1990 the day after Brent died-sucked getting that news from my bro first thing I saw him when I got home - also big bummer that the Europe tour took place after I got home...oh well
Other significant shows through the years:
Grateful Dead - all shows were significant as far as I'm concerned - highlights: SPAC 84 (first),Halloween 85, Ripple show 88, Oxford Plains, ME 88, NYE 1988-89, JFK both 87 and 89, MSG LaBamba show 87, and I'm sure a bunch more
Phill & Friends - ended up taking almosat a week off of work after catching first experience in Worcester, MA 99
Ratdog - not as much as Phil but still like Bob's take on the canon quite a bit
Widespread Panic - First at HORDE 93 but then not again until 2005 and a shitload of times since!
Rolling Stones at the Pepsi Center in Albany, NY - blew off my 20 yr HS reunion for that
Steely Dan - around 1993
Phish - a whole bunch of times-some favorites: Halloween 94, Clifford Ball, Palace Theater in 1993, NYE in Boston and NYC, Lake Placid (both years)
moe. - really like these guys but not always on my high priority list
Yes - several different lineups
Kinks
Allman Brothers
Govt. Mule
Dire Straits
Steve Howe - solo
A lot of pickers: David Grisman, Frank Wakefield, Bela Fleck, Tony Trischka, Tony Rice, and a bunch more
That's just a small sampling as I don't want to take up more space. Also, I've been an stagehand at SPAC for 20 years and the list of shows generated from that is massive.
I wish I kept a concert journal from the beginning as I would really love to know the complete list myself- perhaps a project to work on over summer break. I used to have all of my ticket stubs but unfortunately a ton of the ones from the early years were destroyed in my parent's basement during a plumbing disaster
Bottom Line: Just like probably everyone here....I LOVE live music!
