It's dusk here and all the birds have left the feeders for the day so I figured it'd be a good time to fill them with seed. I was carefully pouring some sunflower seeds into the feeder that's right next to the living room window when I noticed movement by my right foot. I looked down and saw it was a big, nasty-looking garter snake! I jumped back, dropped the feeder, seeds flew everywhere.
I ran inside and my wife and 8-year-old daughter were in hysterics. They're taunting me even as I type this.
I hate snakes. Something without legs shouldn't be able to move that fast. Anyone else share this phobia?
Funny, I just spent an hour riding in a car with my niece who was holding a bag full of crickets for her lizard... could not look in her direction- not liking masses of creepy crawlies of any kind!!! Sorry to hear about your snake fright, Lynx- but good thing it wasn't a larger species- your family might have had to send out a search party ;o)
Someday, everything's gonna be diff'rent... when I paint my masterpiece
I used to do Cross Country Siesmic Prospectimg
We went to Maryland in the summer of '97 working at Dan's Mt. State Park.
There are more Timber Rattlers there than anywhere else in the country and you always seem to find them in spots where you can't defend yourself like on a cliffside or in the middle of deadfall
what a pain in the ass !
