Re: Phil:: Please REMOVE the OBAMA sticker from

#13796 3 years, 6 months ago
Personally I don't think I have the right to tell Phil or any other member of the band what to put on their equipment. As far as artists taking political positions goes, this is America and they have a right to express their opinion. At the same time they run the risk of losing some fans when the do! Many of the musicians I like tend to generally agree with me on key issues. A few, Merle Haggard comes to mind, may have significantly different points of view on some things. I'm willing to accept differing opinions and continue to support them. After all, we just might learn something from each other! On occasion, an artist may so radically depart from my value system that I can no longer support them even if I respect their talent. Charlie Daniels is a prime example of this for me. When he remade "Uneasy Rider" into a gay bashing song we were through. Still, he has a right to his opinion just as I have a right to decide I'm so offended he'll get no more of my money!

It's Phil's amp. He can put whatever stickers he wants on it.

Why do you think Merle has a different point of view than you do?

"The Fightin' Side of Me" made strongly suspicious that we don't see eye to eye on everything. I think "Okie From Muskogee" was at least somewhat tongue in cheek (especially if you've heard Merle talk about writing it) but "The Fightin' Side of Me" was a bit "over the top".

Phil (and the other band members) can have any freakin' sticker on their equipment that they want! It is a tad presumptuous to assume that you have the right to tell them what to do. It is equally presumptuous to think that any of them would think "gee, I really need to take that down because some dude doesn't like it."

Anything else I could add would be rather insulting and/or negative, so I'm going to stop here.
