Yes. It was this day, in the year 44 B.C., that Julius Caesar was assassinated by a group of senators led by Marcus Junius Brutus,
on his way to the senate chambers. The senators thought their act would restore the Roman republic, but instead, it led to a
series of civil wars, ultimately leading to the establishment of the permanent Roman Empire by Caesar's adopted heir Octavius,
(later known as Augustus). Caesar was never actually an Emperor. That honor went to Augustus. He was the first Emperor.
