The Bridge Session: Bob Weir and Members of The National to Bridge Indie-Jam Gap at TRI Studios on March 24

Grassroots organization HeadCount has put together an event called “The Bridge Session” that will feature Bob Weir jamming with a band assembled by Scott and Bryan Devendorf of the National at the Furthur / Grateful Dead guitarist’s TRI Studios on March 24. The event will be webcast live free of charge, with Disco Biscuits bassist and HeadCount co-founder Marc Brownstein set to emcee.

Bringing together leaders of the jam and indie worlds, The Bridge Session “aims to bridge the gap between people of various tastes and viewpoints.” This one-time-only performance will feature a setlist containing both Grateful Dead and the National tunes as well as cover songs with a political slant. GD lyricist John Perry Barlow will lead a roundtable discussion at setbreak that will “focus on issues that potentially unify people of divergent ideological perspectives – specifically, getting money out of politics and protecting the First Amendment.” Viewers can send in their questions for the panel via Twitter.

Scott Devendorf is reportedly working on a Grateful Dead tribute album that will feature indie acts. Last year we put together a list of artists and songs we’d like to see on that album.

For those looking at attend the event, HeadCount will sell 40 tickets to benefactors wishing to make tax deductible donations of $1,000 or more. wow sounds great!

I get the impression that TRI dosn't think people will pay much for the broadcasts on there (particularly from a recent interview with Bob and judging by all the free events). I have no idea how many people payed the 20 bux to see Furthur but I know a lot of people who thought that was way to much so I'm guessing they didn't make out to good, especially since it's the only thing TRI ever charged for, except the Slightly Stoopid which they ended up refunding.

maybe if they charged 5 or 10 bux a webcast it would work out better for them, sure it's less money but theres probably a lot more people that would pay a smaller price. I would love to see a solo acoustic show from TRI or anything for that matter, I just wish the whole thing was working out better for them - still only been less then a year though...
