I bet she would like a decent paying job. Or a job to start with.

If her job is going to require an updated business wardrobe, what about a suit or a gift card for one? Otherwise, a nice piece of jewelry to mark the occasion? And congratulations to her, that's a big accomplishment!

Congratulations on the great news!

Will she be living on her own for the first time? Any thoughts of what she could really use, or what you consider a "fortune".

When I first moved out the most useful things I received were a lot of household goods, decent sets of pots, pans, strainers, silverware, etc, much of which I still use "a few" years later (Ok 30 years later ) Plus a futon, which worked well for my first studio apt. They were not terribly expensive, but left on my own I probably would have never gotten decent stuff.

I just read that she already has a decent job, which is great. If she's good with "what she needs" you can focus more on what she wants. I'd suggest something she'd enjoy but would never buy for herself (duh?). Maybe even a trip is she had someone to go with or if she didn't mind going by herself.

My co-worker gives all his kids a few thousand dollars when they graduate college. He figures they know best what they really want or need.

I'd think you'd have some idea of what she wants though. What are you leaning towards Donna? And IMO don't feel the need to spend a lot of $. It's not about how much you spend, it's more about what she'd appreciate and what's in your heart. Especially if she already has a decent job. Plus what can you afford to spend without putting yourself in a bind.

If you can swing it, take her on a trip.
It doesn't have to be expensive, but someplace unique or special.
If you're married, let her bring a friend, if you're single make it just the two of you.

Every time I think of my mother or father, I always remember the things we did and places we went, rarely about the things they bought.

Shared experiences are memories that last a lifetime, and are priceless!
Takin' it in stride!

Thanks so much.. all your ideas are great & I appreciate it. Sigh...it would be so easy if she was a Deadhead but she's into other music. and she's got a house, wardrobe & all other goodies. What about like a spa day or something? I've never been but I hear they are amazing.
