If you play guitar, help me out?

#11767 3 years, 5 months ago
I'm a bit confused with my signal chain...I seem to be getting a lot of hum and I was wondering if anyone could maybe give me some ideas. As of right now I run...

Guitar >
Boss Compression Sustainer >
Boss Super Octave >
Boss Auto Wah >
Ibanez Tube Screamer >
Digitech RP-5 multi effect (used for reverb/delay) >
Boss Loop Station >
Amp

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I always look at the simplest solutions first when dealing with a hum situation. This is a odd question but is there a cable tv box plugged in anywhere nearby. If so try unplugging it. I had a ton of hum in my stereo system when my cable box was plugged in and after I pulled the plug and any connections that went to it it went away. Also do you have a short in a cable maybe try another one.

This gremlin could be a lot of things, try removing a piece of gear at a time to try and narrow it down.

Thanks for all the quick suggestions guys...

I have thought about buying a Boss NF-2 but I am out of room on my pedalboard so I don't know where I'd put it.

There's no cable boxes anywhere near my bedroom where my rig is set up.

I'll start with the idea of removing one pedal at a time and seeing where it comes from. All of my volume knobs are synced up so I don't vary too much depending on what's on and what's off.

The cable box, or any other electrical appliance on the same circuit, even in another room, can cause noise. Also check the cables, they can also cause noise. Have you checked the ground settings on all things?
