That sucks RIP D12

How sad the circle of life can be. It really sucks that it was "modern technology" that did him in.

Still, so sad to read about D12, after seeing him all the way from an egg being laid to his first flights!!

I find it tough, to refrain from following this story, and posting updates. Here is a great photo I wanted to share.
This is D13 and D14, near their home tree, on the morning of july 2nd. (D14 is the one with the antenna.)

So, the nest has been updated with new camera's, including new night camera's, and greater ability to pan, and zoom.

Great pictures! It was amazing how easy it was to get involved with them last year. I'm looking forward to another nesting season, too.

Squirrel in the nest! Could get exciting!

Ok, squirrel is gone. That was close.

Well, the latest updates, have the eagles building a new nest, not far from where the original was. Here's the official post,

~ The Decorah Eagles Have Surprised Us With A New Nest ~

In addition to working on their current nest, the Decorah Eagles have begun building an alternate nest. Multiple nest building is fairly common among Bald eagles and we don't yet know which nest they will choose for 2013. We absolutely cannot install cameras at the new nest tree this year, so we may not see the Decorah Eagles for the rest of the 2012-2013 season. We'll miss watching them online, but it is exciting to see them building their new nest. Once again, Mom and Dad are giving us fresh insights into the lives of bald eagles! Stay tuned for updates and information as the season progresses. If the eagles choose the new nest, we will post images and possibly video to Facebook and our blog. Many questions have already been answered in comments under this post, and additional information will be provided as we get updates.

Apparently the eagles still use both nests. There is no way to determine which they will use for nesting.
