Human Be-In, 1st Morning Dew

#111435 2 years, 7 months ago
It was 45 years ago today when the Dead pulled out their first live Morning Dew with the help of Mr. Owsley and his specially made batch of white lightning. Good Dew, Killer Viola, Good Morning, not so much.
Also called A Gathering of the Tribes, it was a high point of the outdoor free concerts in San Francisco, with about 20,000 in attendance. The rest of the world soon caught on and spoiled the scene with media attention and an influx of unhip people.

Venue:
Polo Field, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, 1/14/67

Artists:
Grateful Dead
Jefferson Airplane
Quicksilver Messenger Service
Country Joe & The Fish
The Charlatans
Timothy Leary
Allen Ginsberg
Michael McClure
Gary Snyder
Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Lenore Kandel

It's funny you mention this show, I was just digging it up last night and getting ready to unzip the files and give it a listen.
I went walkin' out last summer
Tryin' to find a breath of air
I went walkin' on the mountain
A friend had told me I'd find you there

I had read so much about this shows many years before I even got into the Dead, it seems like it would be quite the experience to look over an see Ginsberg, Leary, Owsley, Chet Helms, out enjoying some sunny January Golden Gate park weather all those characters who have Grately influenced my life. very thankful to finally hear it regardless of quality and that wierd rap in Good Morning.
