Q: In July, 1987, the Grateful Dead were scheduled/rumored to be playing in this city, but instead played two shows in Roanoke, VA. What city was it?

Anybody have a guess?

I guessed Hampton, but have no clue!

That would be my guess too. But I really don't know.

I'm going to say Richmond. They'd played Hampton that spring. Since it wasn't Roanoke, it seems the rumored location would be someplace in close proximity to Roanoke, but not much further away, which would rule out some cool place like Saratoga. Maybe Charleston, WV? I imagine after the Richmond '85 show it was considered a good place to see them, but probably the locals didn't want them back.

That was in the middle Dylan Stadium Tour.

I don't know what the rumor was. They played Pittsburgh the night before with special guest Neville Brothers

7/6/87

Then the two Roanokes

7.7.87
7.8.87

Then a smokin' show at JFK
7.10.87

Probably best run of shows I ever saw. I would recommend checking them out on archive.

Still no answer posted...hmmm

Well, I won last week so I don't feel right even submitting an answer to this weeks question.

For those who want to answer this week....hmmmmm

Question is up (copied below - in larger font). Hmmm. If I was to submit an answer, I'd check deadbase. According to them there were three final songs played that tour.

Death Don't have no Mercy
Believe it (or not?)
Built to last

I will also tell you that apparently Garcia / not Brent is given co-credit with Hunter for writing Built to Last.

Good Luck!

Week 115

Q: On the Grateful Dead's Spring Tour of 1990, they played two Garcia/Hunter songs for the last time. What were they?
