Obscura Day...Anyone Participating?

"A day of expeditions, back-room tours, and hidden treasures in your own hometown."

Great idea.
I'm on the waiting list for the Warfield Theatre event. It's underground, underneath the theatre where they used to have a speakeasy during prohibition..I'm from SF and I didn't know that! Cmon, someone please cancel (Because something even better came up).. ...or who's got my miracle?

I wish I had known about this earlier, I'd set up an Obscura event to have a handful of people help me build this dang waterfall I'm in the middle of creating...."ok everyone, let's pick up these beautiful rocks and move them all over there...good work, team!."

Seriously, most of these events look amazing. I've never seen this Japanese art form of making glossy balls out of dirt, for instance..pretty cool, I'd like to have a few of those around.

I'm picturing the shiny dirt balls like sort of clay, and it must be glazed, and dried in a kiln, no? Looked pretty cool. Makes me want to try it.
I can't come down, it's plain to see.

Chester, that sounds about right..it's the 3rd event down the page.
This page takes awhile to load with so many colorful events listed!

Very cool. I googled Hikaru Dorodango and saw that I'll be able to get a lot of info about it. Very interesting process and result.

Research shows that these shiny dirt balls are created completely by rubbing with hands...hmmm, never would have thought that possible. My guess is that as you rub fine dirt over the surface with compression it eventually fills all the mini-pores to the point of gloss...neato. I'd like to crush rocks of the colorful serpentine I was using today for this waterfall project and make some of these balls.
