I really shouldn't "go here" either, but I saw them a couple times and they don't interest me. I do recognize Phish as great musicians.

I do like that Phish are in a way "keepers of the flame" and are probably indirectly turning a lot of people onto the GD. I might be wrong, but I would guess that some people listen to, and like Phish, and then begin to listen to other Jamband music which leads them to the GD, just as the GD the Allmans and Hot Tuna, and a lot of the English blues rock bands turned me onto old blues, folk music, bluegrass, etc.
These are the good old days!!

I saw them back in 95 and although they are amazing musicians I would never go again because of the fans. They were very immature and ruined the whole thing for me.

They're good musicians, but I really can't stand them. I don't care for most of their songs, first of all, because the lyrics never make any sense at all! With Robert Hunter's lyrics and the GD's accompanying music, it is almost what I would consider to be like my bible. I can find lyrics and/or a song to fit with nearly any feeling or situation I have experienced in life, with GD music, but I can't really relate to Phish. I have gotten free tickets and took my oldest son to see Phish with me, and we just couldn't really get into it.

Another thing, is that Phish is totally about money, and commercialism, they don't care about their fans. If someone is selling anything with a Phish logo that is not officially licensed, they send people out to steal/confiscate their goods. They don't care about people who make a living vending, just so they can follow them around and see every show. They don't realize (or, I believe, just don't care) that a huge part of the scene depends on making money on the lot, so fans can make it to and into every show. They are geared to "trustafarians", spoiled rich kids, and frat boys who want to be part of the jamband scene because it's the cool thing to do, and it's not really about the music, ideals, and family aspects, like the Grateful Dead were/are.

If the Boys have trouble with copyright type things, they make people put their goods away, which is understandable, when the lot interferes with their market and business. Having a hand made steal your face (or version of one), or a 13 point lightning bolt doesn't automatically mean the Boys are gonna come after you. The Phish copyright police often attack people, and steal their goods, when much of the time, it's everything those people had and invested their money in. And that means, anything with the Phish name or similar logo can give you a bunch of trouble.

I even have a hypothesis that, when Trey got busted for opiates, he made a deal with police that he/Phish would help cooperate with them to help bust their fans, who may be involved with drug use. Phish lot often has numerous busts, when compared to an event of the same size put on by the Dead/Furthur/The Other Ones/PL&F/RatDog/etc. The lot is also filled with a lot more of the shady characters that you often don't get as much of, due to the "Family" values that are expected, on the Boys' scene.

While the scenes often have some of the same types of people, or a crowd with similar ideas, the differences between the two are enough for me to be totally turned off by Phish, so it's just not for me! And, although it's kind of a crude saying, I found this shirt, which I thought was awfully funny, that I bought on Furthur summer tour, that says on the back, "You can take your Widespread Phish lips, and suck the String Cheese out of my Grateful Dead dick!" On the front it says, "Go Bears!" and the dancing bear has a pimp hat and beard, and a pimp cane. As I said, it is a bit crude, but I thought it was funny enough that I had to pick one up, since it was only $15.

i got into phish the exact same time i got into the dead. my dead cd's got way more use than my phish ones. i had enjoyed them a lot more when i was younger. i've seen a little over 10 shows since their 04-09 hiatus (probably 30-40 total) and each time i go i want to go back less and less. this summer i saw the darien lake show. i was so disappointed i have not been able to even consider going to another one. when i was on the road with furthur full time it was a no brainer. now when i have a choice (and a friend who processes lottery requests so i sit where i want for a phish show) i still don't even consider.

it's just a joke a lot of their material is straight nonsense. not my idea of a concert. i used to think page mcconnel was great keys, but he seems to have deteriorated. even the diehards are ripping gordon a new asshole. i used to think he was their backbone. fishman is probably the best one in the band in my opinion.

i even skipped superball, while hanging out 15 minutes from watkins glen that weekend.

anyways, this is all just my opinion, take it or leave it.
who else is gonna bring you, a broken arrow?

I enjoyed the 2 nights at Merrriweather Post, And superball 9, Didn't go expecting Grateful dead, Wasn't disappointed, Its fun but doesn't have the meaning and soul which so grately attracts me to Grateful Dead music

At Super ball 9 they Played "Big Balls" Which was pretty Epic dude (To phase it like a phish kid)
